Farmer yields 2 grenades at Maguindanao checkpoint

COTABATO CITY–Police arrested Wednesday a farmer for possession of two fragmentation grenades in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares, director of Police Regional Office-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said police personnel manning a checkpoint in Barangay Tenorio arrested Rayudin Mamadra Abdullah, 45, a farmer-resident of Barangay Labungan for carrying hand grenades in his motorbike’s utility box.

Mijares said police personnel became suspicious because Abdullah was uneasy as he approached the checkpoint at 4:30 p.m. onboard his motorbike.

Abdullah, Mijares said, claimed the grenades are meant for self-defense since he has a feud with another Moro family in his village. Abdullah did not say from whom he got the explosives, which police described as “live” and could explode anytime when handled improperly.
