Farmer yields 2 grenades at Maguindanao checkpoint

COTABATO CITY–Police arrested Wednesday a farmer for possession of two fragmentation grenades in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares, director of Police Regional Office-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said police personnel manning a checkpoint in Barangay Tenorio arrested Rayudin Mamadra Abdullah, 45, a farmer-resident of Barangay Labungan for carrying hand grenades in his motorbike’s utility box.

Mijares said police personnel became suspicious because Abdullah was uneasy as he approached the checkpoint at 4:30 p.m. onboard his motorbike.

Abdullah, Mijares said, claimed the grenades are meant for self-defense since he has a feud with another Moro family in his village. Abdullah did not say from whom he got the explosives, which police described as “live” and could explode anytime when handled improperly.

Mijares said the suspect, now detained at Datu Odin Sinsuat police lock-up cell, has been charged for violating Republic Act 10591 or Illegal Possession of Firearms and Explosives. (Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
