Filipinos can expect faster election results this year due to major technological upgrades and efforts by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to streamline transmission processes, a key poll watchdog said on Monday, May 12.

In a press briefing, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) spokesperson Ana Singson credited the speed of results transmittal to technological improvements, including 5G connectivity and the deployment of over 10,000 Starlink terminals across the country.

“Conceptually, the transmission should be faster,” she said in mixed English and Filipino.

The PPCRV expected early transmission results could start arriving by 7:30 p.m.

“They’re thinking, in a few hours, we will have a lot of the votes already, but of course, to see is to believe,” Singson said.

She added that the faster transmission of results should not discount the accuracy of the results.

“If it is faster, I hope no one would say ‘Why it’s fast?’ Let’s account for advances in technology and let’s account also for advances in equipment,” Singson said.

“We think there was really a strong effort at transparency with this particular, with the leadership of our elections,” she added. (PNA)
