“Well, ever since last year when they were preparing for these games ay nagti-training na rin sila sa atin ‘no, bagong setup nga lang ‘no. Well, they were all over Metro Manila, Baguio, Samar, in the provinces ‘no so nag-bubble training din sila kaya ready naman ang mga atleta natin,” ani Fernandez.

“I am pretty sure that the other Southeast Asian countries’ athletes also encountered the same challenges ‘no. So palagay ko pantay-pantay lang tayo as far as preparation is concerned. In fact, the other countries, mas malala iyong cases nila kaysa sa atin ‘no,” dagdag niya.

To name a few is of course basketball ‘no, iyong karate, taekwondo, gymnastics marami pa ‘yan ‘no, hopefully sa swimming and athletics ‘no, and shooting.

Just like in 2019, tayo ang namili ‘no. Typical example is wala silang arnis dito, ‘no, where we gathered about 16 gold medals and several silvers and bronzes ‘no at iba pa, marami pa – Vovinam, martial arts [unclear], iyon ang sports nila ‘no. So initially ang thinking ko was, we will try to shoot for the top three—we should be in the top three position ‘no – that’s more achievable I believe ‘no,” dagdag ni Fernandez.

– gb
