Filipino high school students to gather for 8th ASEAN Quiz National Competition

(Manila, Philippines) – The country’s brightest youth lock horns once more to vie for the chance to represent our flag colors and bring national pride in the 8th ASEAN QUIZ in Indonesia this November 2018.

The biennial competition is a Philippine initiative under the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN COCI).

Held among secondary students in the region since 2002, the Department of Education undertakes the screening of qualified Grades 9-10 participants, ages 15-17 years old, sourced from the 17 administrative regions nationwide.

The winners of their respective regions shall compete in the national tilt to determine the top 3 students who will represent the country in the Regional Quiz, which brings together students from the 10 Member-Countries of ASEAN. Also at stake are cash prizes amounting to P45,000.

This year, the national competition will be held from April 3-6 at the Broadcast Center of the People’s Television Network (PTV Philippines).

The ASEAN QUIZ aims to foster the spirit of healthy competition among ASEAN youth in a friendly quiz game that exposes them to ASEAN cultural, political, economic and social information. Student-participants also get a chance to immerse themselves in the culture of the host-country in a special day tour attached to the event.

The 8th ASEAN Quiz National Competition is a project of the ASEAN Committee of Culture and Information and PTV Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Department of Education (DepEd), the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and the Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS).
