Filipino karateka James de los Santos bagged his 31st gold medal for 2021 after topping the e-Kata Individual Male Seniors of the Athlete’s E-Tournament Trophy World Series 5 Ranked Event on Tuesday (Aug. 31).

De los Santos went up against participants from the United States and Switzerland. The online tournament was held from Aug. 27 to 31.

The 31-year-old from Cebu City finished with a score of 25, besting the scores of Moreno Domont Matias of Switzerland who got a score of 24.74 and Bustamante Alfredo of the United States who finished with a 24.4.

“I’m not far from surpassing my record last year. I just need to train harder and keep focus in order to achieve my goal for this year,” de los Santos said.

He is set to compete in a couple of more tournaments — the Okinawa E-Tournament World Series #6 on Sept. 5 and the SportData E-Tournament World Series on Sept. 9. – jlo
