Filipinos must unite to combat fear, want: AFP

MANILA — While it expressed preparedness to fight enemies of peace and prosperity, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has urged Filipinos to do their part in ongoing battles against fear and want.

“While your soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines are the ones at the forefront of the nation’s fight against contemporary enemies of peace, security, and prosperity, every one of us must give his or her share to win our battles to gain freedom from fear and freedom from want,” AFP spokesperson Col. Edgard Arevalo said in message as the country celebrated its 120th Independence Day on Tuesday.

Arevalo said that Tuesday’s celebration is a “legacy bequeathed by our forebears” through their blood, sweat, tears, and innumerable sacrifices.

“What we do with that hard-earned freedom is our gift to our heroes and to the future generation of Filipinos,” he added. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
