Filipinos remain proud of Rachel Peters despite Miss U loss

MANILA — A senator praised Miss Philippines Rachel Peters for winning the hearts of Filipinos despite only making it to the top 10 candidates of Miss Universe held at the Axis Theatre in Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada on Monday.

The last time the Philippines reached only as far as the top 10 was in the pageant’s 63rd edition where Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa was the country’s bet.

“You were a portrait of beauty and perseverance on stage, and gave the pageant your best,” Senator Grace Poe said in a press statement.

Poe said that despite not clinching the crown, Filipinos remained proud of her.

“With or without the crown, you already have won the hearts of the Filipinos!” she added.

Out of 92 women from across the globe, Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned as the next Miss Universe.
