Fire hits 4th floor of newly-opened NCCC Mall

DAVAO CITY – Barely a year after its mall along McArthur Highway here was razed by fire, the fourth floor of the newly-opened New City Commercial Center (NCCC) caught fire on Sunday.

The fire, which is still being investigated by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), occurred at the mall’s fourth floor, which is not yet open to the public and will house the cinemas.

The fire alarm went off at past 12 midnight, prompting the building’s construction workers to call for assistance.

The supermarket and the department store on the first and second floor, respectively, opened last July.

The four-story mall is located in an 8,000-sq. meter property.

The Buhangin mall is the second for NCCC.

It may be recalled that the NCCC Mall in Ma-a, which was built in 2003, was razed by fire in December last year, leaving 38 people dead. (Lilian Mellejor/PNA)
