Five more Filipinos injured in Beirut Blasts

PASAY CITY 10 August 2020 — The Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Beirut, reported that an additional five Filipino nationals were injured in the blasts last week. The new report ups the number of Filipinos slightly injured to 47 from the previous 42.

“We are still thankful that the injuries sustained by our kababayans are not life-threatening. We also thank our Embassy personnel for taking prompt action,” stated Undersecretary Sarah Lou Y. Arriola who is closely monitoring the progress on the ground.

The DFA prepares to bring home this week the mortal remains of four Filipinos who perished in the blasts. The DFA chartered flight will also repatriate some 400 OFWs eager to come home to be with their families.

“The repatriation of our kababayans from Lebanon is free. We maintain that the DFA – your DFA – works for you,” added Undersecretary Arriola.
