The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said flight operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) remain normal despite the presence of volcanic smog or vog caused by Taal Volcano.
“The Manila International Airport Authority is closely monitoring the situation and assures the air riding public that any disruptive effect of the smog to flight operations shall be advised accordingly,” MIAA said.
MIAA also advised passengers and airport workers assigned in the open area to wear face masks “as high concentration of volcanic smog poses health hazards.”
The Department of Health earlier cautioned the public against vog, as it urged anew the wearing of face masks and staying indoors “to limit vog exposure.”
Based on the latest advisory of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Taal Volcano’s sulfur dioxide emission reached 4,569 tonnes on Sept. 21.
Voluminous emission of plumes were also seen, reaching up to 2,400 meters, drifting in the west-southwest and southwest directions.
