Floods hit 15 Bataan villages due to heavy rain, high tide

HERMOSA, Bataan — Some 15 villages in Bataan were hit by floods, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported on Sunday.

Among the 15 flooded barangays, seven are in Hermosa town, which include Almacen, Daungan, Parayray, Pulo, Saba, Mandama, and Purok 1.

Fishing bancas remained as the only means of transportation in the villages of Almacen, Daungan, Parayray, and Pulo where flood waters rose to more than neck-deep.

Meanwhile, portions of Luakan, Mabini Extension, Saguing, San Ramon, Sta. Isabel, and Layac, which are all in Dinalupihan, were also flooded.

The town of Pilar has also two flooded villages — Balut 2 and Wawa.

PDRRMO chief Josefina Timoteo said the flooding was due to high tide and the continuous rains.

At least 47 families or 186 persons from barangays Luakan and Saguing in Dinalupihan were evacuated at the Luakan National High School.

About seven families or 25 individuals from San Ramon, also in Dinalupihan, were brought to another evacuation center.

Jose Mari Garcia of the Philippine Information Agency said the first and second engineering districts of the Department of Public Works and Highways were continuously monitoring road and bridge conditions in the area.

The barangay road in sitio Macaraeg in Luakan was temporarily closed to traffic after the road was submerged into two feet of floodwater when a portion of the dike in the area collapsed.

There were no reports of landslide, fallen trees and injuries as a result of the flooding. Both the Roman and MacArthur Highways were declared passable to all types of vehicles. (Ernie Esconde/PNA)
