Some areas in Luzon will continue to experience heavy rains and strong winds even after Severe Tropical Storm Florita has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday, Aug. 24, the weather bureau said.
Moderate to heavy rains will still be experienced over the Ilocos region, Abra, and Benguet, while light to moderate, with at times heavy rains will prevail over the rest of the Ilocos and Cordillera regions.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are still expected, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, the western portion of mainland Cagayan (Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Allacapan, Aparri, Lasam, Santo Niño, and Rizal), Apayao, Abra, the western portion of Kalinga (Balbalan, Pasil, and Tinglayan), the western portion of Mountain Province (Bauko, Tadian, Besao, Sagada, Sabangan, Bontoc, and Sadanga), the northern and western portions of Benguet (Mankayan, Bakun, Kibungan, Kapangan, Tublay, La Trinidad, Sablan, Tuba, Baguio City, and Atok), Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union.
Strong breeze to near-gale strength winds will be experienced in these areas.
Rough to very rough seas will prevail over the northern and western seaboards of northern Luzon (Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan), and the seaboards of central Luzon and the northern and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon (Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Batanes, Cagayan, and Isabela).
Fishing boats and other small sea vessels have been advised not to venture out into the sea, while larger sea vessels have been alerted against big waves.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is forecast to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the rest of Luzon.
Flash floods or landslides are likely due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms, PAGASA said. (PNA)
