Folayang comeback bid foiled by Chinese fighter at ONE: Battleground II

Former ONE Lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang saw his comeback bid thwarted after losing to Chinese veteran Zhang Lipeng in the main event of ONE: Battleground II in a tape-delayed event held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium that aired on Friday, Aug. 13.

Zhang applied the pressure early on Folayang, taking him to the ground and controlling him on the mat.

Folayang tried to swing the momentum in the second round by using low kicks to the Chinese’s legs. However, Zhang was able to adjust and take the action back to the ground with a blast double.

In the third and final round, Folayang was successful in defending attempted takedowns and continued to work on Zhang’s legs. But a huge slam toward the end of the round sealed the deal for the Chinese fighter.

All three judges scored the bout in favor of Zhang, handing him a unanimous decision win.

It was the fourth-straight defeat for Folayang.
