Former Boracay-based pug vies for ONE welterweight belt

MANILA — Zebaztian Kadestam gets another shot at the ONE welterweight title as he takes on Tyler McGuire in the main event of ONE: Warrior’s Dream at the Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 17.

The Swedish fighter, once based in Boracay, previously vied for the belt only to lose to then champ Ben Askren.

With Askren getting “traded” to the Ultimate Fighting Championship for Demetrious Johnson, the belt has been vacated, and a showdown between Kadestam and McGuire has been set.

Kadestam, who previously held the Pacific Xtreme Championship welterweight belt, stunned fellow ONE welterweight title contenders Luis Santos and Agilan Thani putting him in a position to fight for the vacant title.

On the other hand, McGuire holds a perfect 11-0 record with seven of his wins coming by submission, and after a solid victory against Santos, McGuire got a title shot.

Meanwhile, Eugene Toquero will make a return to the ONE Championship cage as he takes on Japan’s Tatsumistu Wada.

One year after he bowed to China’s Ma Hao Bin at ONE: Hero’s Dream in Yangon, the Filipino fighter looks to bounce back with a bang and end a four-fight skid.

Jimmy Yabo and Angelie Sabanal will also see action in ONE: Warrior’s Dream.

Yabo battles Jakarta-based American pug Zach Zane, while Sabanal takes on home country hero Prescilla Lumban Gaol. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
