Former colleagues honor Nene Pimentel

Prominent Filipino leaders honored former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr. in a necrological service at the Senate of the Philippines this morning, October 23, 2019. Incumbent and former senators gave their respective eulogies on Pimentel Jr. that mostly dwelled on his invaluable contributions to the Filipino nation and his unblemished character as a true statesman and public servant. Current Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III led the expression of respect on the late politician. Senators Pia Cayetano and Risa Hontiveros reminisced the warm memories of their mentor. Former senators Heherson “Sonny” Alvarez, Anna Dominique Coseteng, Jose Lina, and Jose Saguisag also gave a peek of his greatness as a lawmaker and a humble person.

A Senate resolution has been issued by the Upper House to embody its condolences to the family of the late senator, including his son Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.

Last night, October 22, 2019, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte went to Pimentel’s wake straight from the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Naruhito in Japan. The severe ache in his spinal column caused the Head of State’s to return to the Philippines earlier than expected.
