Fourth Omicron case in PH detected

The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday (Dec. 27) the detection of a new COVID-19 Omicron variant case, bringing the Omicron case tally to four.

The fourth Omicron case is a 38-year-old passenger from the United States of America who arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Dec. 10 aboard Flight PR 127. The individual reportedly met with her friends before leaving the US.

She initially tested negative for COVID-19 on Dec. 7 before her dparture. She began experiencing an itchy throat and a cold on Dec. 13 and eventually testing positive the next day, Dec. 14.

She was discharged from a quarantine facility on her 10th day in quarantine on Dec. 24 when she was already considered asymptomatic. She is now under home isolation.

In a media forum on Monday (Dec. 27), the DOH showed that the majority of the 433 new COVID-19 cases on Dec. 26 are from Metro Manila, Regions 4A, 3, 4B, and 1. The Philippines has a seven-day daily case average of 307.

The DOH said all regions are in a flat case trend with a minimal risk classification due to a -36% growth rate and low average daily attack rate (ADAR) or incidence of 0.28 cases per 100,000 population.

DOH USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire gives an update on the COVID-19 situation of all regions, Dec. 27, 2021.

Case bulletin, sitreps

Starting Jan. 1 next year, the DOH said all COVID-19 data will be made available at doh.gov.ph/covid19tracker in a bid to “streamline public communication.”

“Hanggang Dec. 31 na lang ang araw-araw na paglabas ng case bulletin at ng COVID-19 situational report,” DOH USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said.

“The case bulletin and the daily situation report will no longer be issued separately as social media card and as PDF file, respectively,” the agency said in an advisory. – Report from Naomi Tiburcio/AG- – bny
