The Province of Basilan is on its way to full connectivity following the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) launching of free internet projects.

The DICT Mindanao Cluster 1 on Monday (Sept. 13) launched its various programs in a bid to provide free internet access in the province, including the establishment of free WiFi hotspots in 11 municipalities and two cities.

The DICT said it is targeting the placement of 79 free WiFi sites in public places, schools, ports, and government offices.

A digital transformation center and Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs, and Economic Development (Tech4ED) Project will also be established in the province.

The provincial launching was led by DICT Mindanao Cluster 1 Reg. Dir. Maria Teresa Camba, Col. Jonathan Lambert Gesolgon of Western Mindanao Command, Vice Gov. Yusop Alano, and Michael Jolo of DICT Basilan. – Report from Jaira Mondez (PTV Davao)/AG-bny
