Gabriela, 5 others vie for fresh party-lists spots

MANILA — Gabriela Women’s Party (GWP) and five other incumbent groups submitted their certificates of nomination and acceptance (CONA) on the second day of CONA filing at the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Gabriela, an advocate for women’s rights, vowed to wage an intensified fight against various forms of abuses against women and children.

In an interview with reporters, GWP representative and first nominee Arlene Brosas said Gabriela will continue to push for amendments of the Anti-Rape Law and Anti-Violence against Women and their Children.

GWP’s nominees for the 2019 elections represent the three island groups of the Philippines.

GWP’s nominees next to Brosas is consumer rights defender Lucy Francisco from Iloilo and Moro human rights advocate Bai Ali Indayla from Mindanao.

Meanwhile, following the filing of GWP are Aasenso, COOP-NATCCO, Angkla, Angat Tayo, and ACTS-Teachers party-lists.

ACT-Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio said his group would continue to fight for these causes — an increased wage for all Filipino teachers, added benefits, and free education for all.

At present, three new party-list groups submitted their CONA — the Alyansa General Parents Teacher Association-Indigenous People (AGPTA-IP), Construction Worker Solidarity, and the Hugpong Federal Movement of the Philippines. (Joyce Ann L. Rocamora/PNA)
