Gadon announces plan to run for senator in 2019

MANILA — Lawyer Larry Gadon, the man behind an impeachment complaint against former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, formally announced on Friday his plan to run for a Senate seat in the 2019 midterm elections.

Gadon confirmed his senatorial bid next year in a media forum at Nanka Restaurant in Quezon City.

Gadon said he has accepted the nomination of the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL), the political party founded by the late former President Ferdinand Marcos, to join its senatorial slate for next year’s polls.

“Nandito ako ngayon upang tanggapin ang nomination na binibigay ng Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (I’m here right now to accept the nomination offered by the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan),” Gadon said.

“Gagawin ko ho ang aking makakaya upang.. maisulong ang lahat ng adbokasiya na makakatulong sa bayan (I will do my best to… push for every advocacy that would help improve our country),” he added.

Gadon said other national political parties are eyeing to endorse him as senator, including the Lakas–Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD).

He bared that his legislative agenda will focus on measures aimed at creating economic growth, noting that there is a need to revisit the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Act.

“Syempre titignan ko ang legislative bills na may kinalaman sa ekonomiya… mga bills na pwedeng magpaangat ng ating ekonomiya. Irevisit ang TRAIN Law para makita ang iba pang improvements na dapat gawin dito (Of course, I will pursue legislative bills related to the economy… bills that would help improve our economy. There is a need to revisit the TRAIN Law to find ways to introduce improvements),” he said.

He further noted that reforms must be introduced to the Philippine education system for it to keep up with international trends.

Gadon was part of the legal team of former president and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He ran and lost in the senatorial race in the May 2016 polls under the KBL. (Filane Mikee Cervantes/PNA)
