Galvez shares ‘Ulirang Ama’ award to all fathers in AFP

MANILA — Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen. Carlito Galvez, Jr. dedicated his “Ulirang Ama” award to all fathers in the country’s 125,00-strong military.

This is only fitting as most of these men are away from their families and risking their lives for the peace and security of the country, he said in a statement Monday.

“I know the hardships of being a father who constantly has to be far from home as duty calls. I know the pain of not being there during special occasions or milestones in our children’s life,” Galvez said.

But even more deserving of the above-mentioned award are the troopers who gave their lives in defense of the country and their fellow Filipinos.

“Even more deserving of this award are those who have given their lives for love of country and people. I swear that I will take care of your families and that your sacrifice will not be in vain,” the AFP chief stressed.

Galvez received the “Ulirang Ama” award from the “Ulirang Ina/Ama” Awards Foundation at the Manila Hotel Sunday.

“I would like to express my profound gratitude to the Ulirang Ina Ama Foundation, Inc. under the direction of its current President, Mr. Wilfredo Talag, for your efforts to recognize outstanding mothers and fathers in society,” the AFP chief concluded. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
