GenSan adopts new systems to enhance hospital services

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The city government has adopted new management systems to enhance the operations of the city hospital and address the perennial delay in the procurement and delivery of supplies and medicines for the facility.

Glenvil Gonzales, administrator of the local government-run Dr. Jorge P. Royeca Hospital, said Monday that the new systems involve paperless recording and supplies consignment systems.

Gonzales said the paperless record system mainly automated or computerized the records and transactions at the city hospital.

“This makes our operations more efficient and allow allows our staff to focus more on patient care,” he said in a statement.

Gonzales cited the quicker access to patients’ records, which will facilitate more coordinated and efficient care services.

He said the system also facilitates the faster updating of the patients’ diet list, medicine prescription and disease coding.

On the other hand, the official said the consignment system enables the city hospital to acquire supplies and medicines faster through accredited establishments and supplies.

He said they opted for the move to resolve the non-delivery of medicines in the past due to lack of suppliers that often resulted in a failure of bidding.

“The problem was not about our budget but whether there are bidders for the needed supplies and medicines,” Gonzales said.

Because of the problem, he said that there were deliveries for medicines that got delayed for several months, making them unavailable at the hospital for certain period of time.

“So with the consignment scheme, it will be a thing of the past. Everything that we bid out will be available at any time,” he added.
