GenSan eyes completion of P20-M disaster operations building by June

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The city government is targeting the completion by June of its P20 million City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) building.

Dr. Agripino Dacera Jr., CDRRMO head, said Tuesday the construction of the building is currently ongoing between the city employees’ association office and the Philippine Red Cross buildings within the local government center.

He said the new building will mainly host the local government’s disaster and emergency command center.

“We’re expecting it to be finished by June so we can operationalize the new operations center,” he said.

Dacera said the building was designed as a three-story structure that will host a storage facility and garage for the CDRRMO’s ambulance and rescue vehicle at the ground floor.

He said the second level would be utilized for the office’s operations center and conference room.

“The operations center will serve as the monitoring base for the city’s CCTV (closed circuit television) system,” he said.

The official said the local government is currently working on the purchase of CCTVs that would be installed in strategic locations in the city.

The move was aimed to further enhance the city government’s peace and order campaigns, in coordination with the city police and other law enforcement units.

Dacera said the third floor would be used for trainings, seminars and other activities of the CDRRMO.

The building’s rooftop would host the radio antenna and tower for communication facilities, he said.

City Mayor Ronnel Rivera had pushed for the construction of the CDRRMO building to establish a permanent disaster and emergency command center for the city.

The city council approved last year the allocation of P20 million for the construction of the CDRRMO building through the DRRM component of the city’s supplemental budget number 02 for 2015.(PNA)
