Globe first to answer Liloan’s call for connectivity for its barangays

Liloan Municipality’s bid to bring technology and progress to all its barangays got a tremendous boost after Globe laid down the groundworks for the installation of a cell site in one of its mountain barangays recently.

Mayor Christina Frasco, along with other officials of Liloan and Globe representatives, led the groundbreaking rites in San Roque.

Frasco says it has been her dream since 2016 to improve connectivity in the mountain barangays of her town. This is also a long-time request of the people in remote barangays to telecommunications companies (telcos) in the past. She expressed gratitude to Globe for being the first telco to answer their call.

“It’s high time we bring development to the high mountainous parts of Liloan, which is one of the most beautiful and very rich in resources here in our town. Let’s bring equal opportunity to them, the same opportunities our lowland barangays enjoy,” Frasco said.

Frasco added that the Public-Private partnership between Liloan and Globe will ensure development that will be extended all over the municipality. She is also optimistic that Globe will be an important ally of Liloan in finding non-traditional ways of coping with the COVID-19 pandemic.

For his part, Joel Agustin, Globe SVP for Program Development, Network Technical Group, said the installation of Globe tower in a far flung area in Liloan complements the company’s goal to make technology inclusive and to increase its capability through network builds in areas all over the country.

“Our network roll out will eventually help Liloan to have more opportunities especially that it has begun to face the new normal with a headstrong attitude. The cell site will eventually help the students of Liloan face the challenges of blended learning in the new school year,” Agustin added.

Despite the challenges imposed by its location, Liloan is one of the most advanced municipalities in the country. It was the first municipality to have its own online medical consultation to ensure less exposure and physical distancing is observed when its residents need access to doctors. Liloan aslo has its own online app to provide convenience to residents in transacting business with the municipality and in contract tracing of possible cases of COVID-19. It has been hailed as a model municipality in the country by a leading newspaper.

With its partnership with Globe, Frasco says she expects Liloan to thrive even further in the future.
