Globe assures its customers that contingency plans and preparations are in place to address the impact of the ongoing rotational brownouts in Luzon.
The telco says all of its key installations, particularly its cell towers, are equipped with lithium batteries that can last for two hours. There are also generator sets on standby in case the loss of power takes longer than expected.
“We have sufficient back-up power to address the two-hour rotating power interruptions we are now experiencing. And in case these brownouts go beyond what was announced, we have batteries that can extend operations further for two more hours,” said Peter Tan, Globe Senior Vice President for Network Operations.
Tan said the company has been on high alert status since power blackouts were reported in Luzon. Globe has activated its personnel and resources for all possible scenarios.
“Our cell sites are already provisioned with back-up batteries, fuel cells, or a combination of either batteries and generators. We also have on standby a number of portable, trailer-mounted generator sets that we can deploy anywhere they may be needed,” he added.
For households, offices, and other establishments, Globe encourages its customers to prepare also for power interruptions either by having generators on hand or charging their phones, laptops, tablets, power banks, and other gadgets before the scheduled interruptions. They can also use an uninterruptible power supply or UPS to power up their modems.
