Globe to suspend mobile services in Quiapo for ‘Traslacion’

MANILA — Telecommunications provider Globe will temporarily suspend its mobile services within the vicinity of the Black Nazarene procession starting 5 a.m. January 9 until the image of the Black Nazarene returns to the Quiapo Church in compliance with the directive of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

The telco advised its subscribers along the procession route that they may not be able to access call, text and mobile data services while the suspension of services is in effect.

“Due to the overlapping mobile signal from cell sites in adjacent areas, the suspension of services could affect customers in other parts of Manila and Cavite areas. The NTC directive for a network shutdown was issued upon request of the Philippine National Police. We appeal for our customers’ understanding,” Globe General Counsel Froilan Castelo said in a statement Monday.

Organizers of the Feast of the Black Nazarene are expecting millions of devotees to participate in this year’s activities including the grand procession in Manila. (PNA)
