Globe to deploy cell sites on major roads in Metro Manila

MANILA – Globe Telecom will be deploying cell sites on major thoroughfares across Metro Manila as part of efforts to improve its mobile services.

This, as Globe has recently signed an agreement with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for the installation of more than 120 small cell antennas along EDSA, Roxas Boulevard, C-5 and Congressional Avenue.

The agreement will allow Globe to put up cell facilities without undergoing through the regular circuitous approval process, which involves an average of 25 permits from local government units (LGUs) and takes up about eight months to secure.

“Securing various permits for the construction of telco infrastructure such as cell sites has long been a major challenge of the industry. We want to thank MMDA for sharing our vision of a connected Philippines by allowing us to deploy sites faster thus improving mobile experience at the heart of Metro Manila,” Globe president and chief executive officer Ernest Cu said in a statement over the weekend.

The telco also committed to provide logistical support to the traffic management operations of MMDA.

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said the initiative will be able to improve communication services in Metro Manila.

“Globe Telecom has been a long time partner of the agency in terms of public service. This agreement is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s policy of easing the process of doing business in the Philippines and MMDA’s contribution to improving telecommunications service in Metro Manila,” Lim said.

Globe earlier said it has created an independent tower company for the building of cell towers that may be utilized for the delivery of mobile services to its subscribers with its incorporation approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission last August. (PR)
