Globe’s mobile data traffic up 49% in Jan.-Sept.

MANILA — Mobile data traffic of Globe Telecom surged by 49 percent to 641 petabytes for the first nine months of the year as its LTE coverage reached up to 90 percent of cities and municipalities nationwide.

In a statement on Wednesday, Globe said that it has deployed around 12,000 LTE sites by utilizing its 700 megahertz (MHz), 2600 MHz, and other radiofrequency spectrum assets.

It has likewise rolled out 40,522 base stations to support the service requirements of its customers.

“This development affirms our business strategy that sustained investments in enhancing network capacities and coverage will enable us to keep our competitive edge in the data space and allow us to sustain our growth momentum,” Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said.

“We intend to continue investing on LTE to meet the demands of our customers for streaming and always-on digital services,” he added.

Globe has invested around PHP 32.5 billion in capital expenditures for the January to September period to support its increasing customer base and address rising demand for data services. About 78 percent of the total expenditures for this period was allocated for data-related services

Mobile revenues which included data, voice and text messaging for the period increased by 8 percent to PHP 77.7 billion. Mobile data accounted for 50 percent of gross service services from 43 percent a year ago.

Globe’s mobile subscribers as of end of September totaled 65.4 million up by 10 percent from the 59.3 million subscribers reported in the same period last year.
