Media advocacy organization AnakTV from the Philippines visited GMN TV headquarters in Timor-Leste to invite them to become members of the video festival program for children in ASEAN.

On April 24, AnakTV President Elvira Yap Go and her team visited GMN in Bebora, Dili to hold a meeting with the director general and directors of directorates to discuss the participation of the media outfit in the regional video festival.

AnakTV also invited GMN to become a member of the children’s video festival program in ASEAN and participate in this program for the 6th time in 2027, which will be held next year in Jakarta, Indonesia.

AnakTV chief Go said the media is a constructive way to give opportunity to Timor-Leste to explore listening to the aspirations of children in ASEAN.

Director General of GMN, SA, Levi da Costa Serrano agreed to become a member of the children’s video festival program board to promote children in the festival.

GMN TV honored AnakTV’s invitation to participate in the festival, expressing Timor Leste’s aspirations to become a board member in support of their recent inclusion as the 11th member of ASEAN, and optimism that Dili’s youth will gain exposure in an international event.

This video festival is to help children see their potential, see the world through children’s perspective, and also train children to think about the future.

GMN TV was likewise elated by the invitation, which acknowledges their credibility as a media institution that would represent Timor-Leste in the 11- member bloc.

The Southeast Asian Video Festival for Children (SEAVFC) aims to raise awareness of children’s rights and foster global solidarity and collaboration among children in the ASEAN region through visual works.

The festival is also a platform for creativity, self-expression and learning for the younger generation, encouraging children to actively participate in the film industry and express their perspectives.

In turn, this would help raise awareness of children’s rights and access to education, as well as establish friendship and cooperation among children in Southeast Asia. (PR)
