DAVAO CITY — Former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Friday said he will press for the improvement of fire safety measures around the country if given a Senate seat.
This, as he celebrated All Soul’s Day by visiting and extending assistance to the victims of the two separate fire incidents that took place recently.
“Isa po ito sa aking priority, titignan po natin ang fire safety measures. Marami na pong nangyayaring sunog, iba’t ibang dahilan — pabaya. Kulang pa po itong information campaign (This is one of my priorities We will check fire safety measures. There are a lot of fire incidents because of neglect. Information campaigns are not enough),” Go said during his visit to the survivors of the fire incident in Southern Philippines Medical Center.
“Aside from that, kulang tayo sa mga evacuation centers. Dapat ay magkaroon ng maayos, malinis at safe na evacuation centers (Aside from that, we lack evacuation centers. There should be adequate, clean and safe evacuation centers),” he added.
On October 29, a fire incident took place in Barangay Buhay, Makilala, North Cotabato. A one-storey residential house of the Quila family was affected, which resulted to the death of six family members.
The local government of Makilala, North Cotabato extended food, medical, and financial assistance to the three survivors admitted in Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
Go also encouraged the affected individuals who are in need of medical attention especially the senior citizens to avail of services from the nearest Malasakit Center.
The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop program of President Duterte to hasten the delivery of medical services and give poor patients access to free medicine.
A fast lane prioritizing the senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will also be available.
Meanwhile, a total of 19 families were also affected by the fire incident that took place last Thursday at Purok 26-A, Times Beach, Barangay 76-A.
Seven houses were totally destroyed, while one house was partially damaged.
Aside from the help he and his friends from the private sector brought for the victims, the former presidential aide said he will also assist in following up with the government agencies that can provide further assistance to the affected families.
Go also committed to provide uniforms for children and worker victims.
Go assured the Filipinos that even if he is no longer officially at the side of President Duterte, he will remain as SAP, but not as Special Assistant to the President, instead he will be a “special assistant to the people.”
“Kahit saang sulok ng barangay, kahit saang sulok ng Pilipinas, sa kaya lang po ng panahon ko, sa kaya lang po ng mga kaibigan ko na tumulong, papasukin ko po kayo hanggang sa kadulo-duluhan, kahit sa pinakamaliit pa na kalye (In every corner of the barangay, in every corner of the Philippines, i’ll try to reach all of you in the best way I can, even in the smallest street),” he said.
Go reiterated that the primary reason why he decided to run for senator is because he wants to serve the Filipino people. (PR/PNA)
