Go to file fire modernization bill in Senate

DAVAO CITY — Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Sunday said he is set to file a bill that would upgrade and modernize the Bureau of Fire Protection.

“We need to ensure the safety of the people; through this bill, they will be more educated and aware about fire safety,” Go said during his visit to the fire victims in Barangay Wilfredo Aquino here on Sunday.

Along with his friends, Go provided school and work uniforms, school supplies. clothes, relief goods, meals, medical and cash assistance to affected families.

“Ito po ay personal na tulong galing sa mga kaibigan natin sa pribadong sektor (These are personal help from our friends in the private sector),” Go said.

About 16 houses were damaged when a fire razed along Lakatan Street, Purok Cabaguio on Saturday afternoon.

Go also urged other local and national agencies to offer immediate assistance to the victims.

Even before he became senator, Go has been visiting and providing assistance to fire victims nationwide.

Jimmy Obial, barangay captain of Barangay Wilfredo Aquino, disclosed that out of the 16 houses affected; only one is partially damaged and the rest were totally damaged.

He added that 32 families or 140 individuals including the sharers and renters were directly affected.

“Despite being busy, he (Senator Go) really finds time to help us and offer assistance,” Obial said.
