Go vows aid for kids hurt in NoCot fire

DAVAO CITY — Former presidential top aide Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Friday vowed to help until full recovery the three children injured in a fire that hit a remote village in Makilala town, North Cotabato province on October 29.

Go visited the three children confined at the Burn Unit of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) but was unable to visit the wake of the family members, who perished in the blaze, as they were immediately buried under Muslim rites.

The three children survived the fire in Purok Maliwanag, Barangay Buhay in Makilala that charred to death Esnayra Quila, 29, and her children Sohaile, 3, Sohaina, 2, and a 3-month-old baby. Two others, Mosanip Quila, 39, and Raihana Quila Balasana expired at the SPMC on Wednesday.

The investigation report said Esnayra was watching television when it suddenly sparked and triggered the fire. The flame spread quickly due to the presence of plastic containers of gasoline.

Go said he would request the government agencies under the Malasakit Center to extend help for the children’s medication. Go was instrumental in putting up Malasakit Centers across the country.

“I assure that the government will help until they are released from the hospital and go home to Makilala,” he said in an interview.

He said the Malasakit Center is in SPMC. “It’s all there, they (agencies) will pool resources until they are released from the hospital,” Go added.

After his visit to the SPMC, Go proceeded to Times Beach to extend assistance to the victims of the fire that hit Barangay 76-A.

Go led the distribution of goods and cash assistance to the fire victims. (Lilian Mellejor/PNA)
