Search engine giant Google introduced on Monday, Feb. 6, Bard, its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot service.

In a blog post, Google Chief Executive Officer Sundai Pichai said Bard seeks to combine the “breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence, and creativity” of language.

“Bard can be an outlet for creativity, and a launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now, and then get drills to build your skills,” Pichai explained.

Bard is powered by LaMDA, Google’s own AI with the power to generate human-like prose that was described as sentient by a company engineer in 2022.

Microsoft earlier launched ChatGPT last November 2022, an AI chatbot that can generate text. -ag
