MANILA — Government agencies and representatives from the private sector on Monday signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) in a bid to revive patriotism by encouraging the replacement of old, worn-out and tattered Philippine flags and hoisting of clean flags across the country.

Present during the ceremony were Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Oscar Albayalde, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) chairperson Rene Escalante, Pronove Tai and Associates Philippines, Inc. chief executive officer Monique Cornelio-Pronove, Ayala Foundation president Ruel Maranan and former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairperson Teresita Herbosa.

Under the agreement, the “Salute to a Clean Flag Project” aims to promote renewed respect and love for the Philippine flag through raising awareness of various stakeholders on the proper display of the national colors.

“With this, (on our part), the PNP shall enforce the provisions of the Flag Law on the proper display, storage and safekeeping of the flags,” Albayalde said.

The advocacy started last year started when real estate developer Pronove Tai International Property Consultants and the NHCP tapped members of the private sector to hold simultaneous flag ceremonies during the National Flag Days, which are observed ahead of Independence Day.

During these days, the Philippine flag is raised and displayed it in all government offices, schools, private residences and other establishments from May 28 to June 12.
