Gov’t to reconstruct Concordia Bridge for Skyway Stage 3

MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has advised motorists to expect traffic in Manila as the government would start to reconstruct Concordia Bridge to pave the way for the construction of the Skyway Stage 3, an official said on Thursday.

The civil works on the infrastructue will last for eight months starting May 1, MMDA Deputy Chairman Frisco San Juan Jr. said.

“The bridge already needs to be replaced as this hinders the construction of the Skyway project…,The bridge reconstruction has been delayed for too long” San Juan said in a press conference.

The Concordia bridge consists of six lanes: three northbound and three southbound.

Its southbound lane shall be closed first to the motorists for the reconstruction of the northbound lane.

Three remaining lanes may be utilized for vehicles going both northbound and southbound directions for the duration of the road works.

The MMDA has also conducted its clearing operations to remove illegally parked vehicles and other obstructions in roads that will serve as alternate routes to affected motorists.

The Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project is envisioned to be a 17.38 kilometer elevated expressway from Buendia in Makati City to Balintawak in Quezon City.

The project aims to connect the North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway and is seen to decongest traffic in the metropolis especially along EDSA, C-5 and Central Manila. (PNA)
