Gov’t to pay 60,000 drivers under service contracting

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will pay around 60,000 drivers based on cost per kilometer ran under the service contracting program starting late October until December.

The service contracting program will cover Php 11.00 per kilometer for public utility jeepneys (PUJs), and Php 23.10 per kilometer for buses. In return, a unit must travel or render service for 18 hours with two drivers.

The Php 5.5 billion budget for the program is included under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (Bayanihan 2) and will benefit jeepney and bus drivers currently plying the National Capital Region (NCR) roads and nearby provinces, as well as city buses in Metro Cebu and Metro Davao.

“Ang pagbibigay ayuda, kung pwede mayroon ding benepisyo hindi lang para sa driver, kundi para na rin sa ating mananakay (The granting of assistance should benefit both the driver and the commuter),” LTFRB Chairperson Martin Delgra stated.

The Landbank of the Philippines will create a payroll system and the compensation will be given to drivers per week within three months.

The LFTRB is now in the process of listing names of driver beneficiaries from operators. Interested applicants may also visit ltfrb.pisopay.com.ph or www.ltfrb.gov.ph for the online registration of service contracting program. – Report from Karen Villanda
