A nationwide skilling initiative for government employees and the Filipino workforce is set to be implemented with the launch of the free learning portal developed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in partnership with Microsoft Corporation.
“The need to improve our digital readiness in the new normal is all the more pressing, especially since technological progress translates not only into the ability to participate in the digital economy, but also to an improved quality of life,” DICT Secretary Gregorio “Gringo” B. Honasan II explained.
“With this, we have partnered with Microsoft to empower our workforce, especially our government employees, through this educational portal wherein they can access relevant technology-related content and advance their ICT skills,” he added.
The DICT Workplace Learning & Development Platform contains asynchronous, instructor-led and blended online courses focused on content guides for specific digital roles. It offers 1,000 modules, 300 learning paths, and 21 specific roles free of charge.
The modules found on the site are comprehensive, with some lasting for 4-6 hours while others take less than 3 hours. The modules are produced by the Department’s partners: Microsoft, LinkedIn Learning, and GitHub.
OIC-Assistant Secretary Alvin M. Navarro provided a walkthrough of the learning platform, stating that each course found on the portal is sourced for quality and application to the Philippine setting, with content especially curated for Filipinos.
The learning platform is personalized and user-friendly so anyone can easily identify, engage and monitor their chosen career-oriented learning paths.
“This partnership is one of our efforts to empower Filipinos, especially those working in the government. As civil servants, upskilling their ICT capacities will be pivotal in our digital transformation efforts, especially in the government sector,” Undersecretary Jose Arturo C. De Castro said.
The platform and its modules can now be accessed but it still has features which are still in production, including an accreditation feature that will provide certificate and professional licenses as well as a career center to support job seekers, career changers, and professional advancement.
