Gov’t troops, NPA clash in Nueva Ecija

Fort Ramon, Magsaysay Nueva Ecija – Troops of the 84th Infantry (Victorious) Battalion, 7ID, PA encountered around 15 NPAs at Sitio Barat, Barangay Burgos, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija at around 7:25 a.m. on September 20.

Acting on reports from local residents fed up with the NPAs extortion activities, 703rd Brigade Commander Colonel Abraham Claro C Casis directed the conduct of a focused military operation to the 84IB.

The Charlie Company of 84IB was sent to inspect said area, and on nearing the vicinity, they were suddenly fired upon. The troops immediately assumed defense position and firefight ensued.

Suffering heavily from the encounter, armed members of the enemy were outmaneuvered by the 84IB troops. As the firefight subsided, troops clearing the area were able to recover 10 high-powered firearms and nine (9) backpacks with subversive documents. Nine (9) fatalities were discovered from the enemy, while from the government troops, one was wounded in action and was evacuated right away to the nearest hospital.

Major General Angelito M De Leon, Commander of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID), Philippine Army, immediately ordered pursuit operations to withdrawing enemy to prevent them from destroying flagship projects and committing other atrocities.

Meanwhile, Major General Emmanuel B Salamat, Commander of the Northern Luzon Command, upon learning of the incident, congratulated the troops for their dedication and hard work. (AFP-PAO-PR)
