Grandmasters to pit brains in Estancia Mall chess tournament

All eyes will be on International Master Ronald Dableo in the Hon. Sen. Manny Pacquiao Over the Board Open chess tournament set for Friday, Jan. 7, at 10:00 a.m. at the Estancia Mall in Pasig City.

Dableo, fresh from winning the Pamaskong Handog GM Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. online chess tournament last Dec. 23, is looking to snatch his first title for 2022.

Dableo will be facing stiff strong challenges from the country’s best woodpushers. That list includes GM Rogelio Antonio, Jr., GM Darwin Laylo, IM Ricardo de Guzman, IM Angelo Young, IM Barlo Nadera, IM Chito Garma, IM Chris Ramayrat Jr. and FM Alekhine Nouri, among others.

The champion of the event will receive P7,000 in cash plus a trophy while the runner-up will get P5,000 cash plus and a trophy.

The third-placer will take home P4,000 and a trophy. (PR) – bny
