Guards foil attempt to sneak drugs into SoCot provincial jail anew

KORONADAL CITY – Jail guards at the South Cotabato provincial jail thwarted another attempt by still unidentified men to sneak illegal drugs into the facility early Wednesday (Dec. 29) morning.

Lorey Celeste, acting provincial jail warden, said the shabu drugs that were put inside a lady wallet wrapped with brown packing tape were intercepted by roving guards.

The plastic package which was thrown from the outside of the fenced facility was unwrapped by personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

“When the PDEA agents opened the package, it contained 12 jumbo-sized sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride with an estimated street value of P400,000,” Celeste said.

He said Wednesday’s incident was not the first time that provincial jail personnel intercepted illegal drugs sneaked into the facility during the past several months.

“This is our fourth recovery”, Celeste said.

On Dec. 25, he said eight jumbo packs of suspected shabu were also thrown from outside the compound of the provincial jail and were intercepted.

Celeste said continuous monitoring by the local police indicated at least three organized groups are involved in the foiled attempts to slip illegal drugs into the facility.

“The police have already arrested the three suspects, one of them was nabbed in General Santos City,” Celeste said.

He said they have requested additional closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) from the provincial government to curtail the continuing attempt to sneak illegal drugs into the provincial jail. (PNA) – bny
