Guiao to bring entire Gilas pool to Iran

MANILA — Coach Yeng Guiao may now likely name his Final 12 for the Gilas Pilipinas game against Iran in Tehran, as he plans to bring his entire 16-man pool to the Iranian capital when they go there on Monday.

As the practice resumed on Thursday night at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City following the Philippine Basketball Association break on Wednesday, Guiao once again decided not to name his “chosen dozen”.

“There’s no real urgency to name the 12 guys,” said Guiao, owing to the eligibility concerns and now the recent injury of Greg Slaughter.

Slaughter, who already submitted some documents for his eligibility, hurt his left ankle following a rebounding play with Sean Anthony in Ginebra’s win against NorthPort at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The seven-footer attended the practice but with ankle braces, relegating him to observer’s role.

Including Slaughter, the entire Gilas pool is present in the daily training.

Also in attendance was Junemar Fajardo, who is also nursing a leg injury that kept him out of the Gilas pool. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
