Guv hopeful that ‘municipal quarantine’ can lower COVID cases

By Leonard T. Pineda

ILOILO CITY, June 6 (PIA) – Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. is optimistic that the implementation of the “municipal quarantine” and the imposition of restrictions on non-essential travels within and into the province will result in a decline in the number of cases of COVID-19.

In a press conference, Defensor appealed to the residents in the province to avoid non-essential travels for two weeks, from June 4 to June 18, 2021, pursuant to Executive Order 175.

“We have to capacitate ourselves to deal with or attend to our patients with COVID-19 and we have to counter the increasing trend of transmission by reducing the circulation of people in the province,” he said.

He said that the strict implementation of the minimum public health standards, under EO 155 which enforced the modified general community quarantine status in the province, and EO 175, can result in the lowering of COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Defensor also issued a memorandum to Philippine National Police provincial director, municipal and city chiefs of police, city and municipal mayors, local task forces, and punong barangays to strictly implement and observe these guidelines of EO 175.

These include guidelines on the issuance of travel passes in order to control inter-municipality travel in the province.

“We continue to work with our municipalities and barangays so we could attend to the COVID-19 positive cases,” he said.

He added that municipalities and barangays have been doing a “good job” in handling confirmed asymptomatic cases as there have been no recorded cases of wide virus transmission in their respective levels. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo) – rir
