The southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to bring rains over parts of Luzon on Friday, Aug. 4, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 4:00 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said occasional rains will continue to prevail over Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are also expected over the Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Occidental Mindoro, and the rest of Ilocos Region and Central Luzon.

“For the rest of Mimaropa, malaking bahagi pa rin ng Bicol Region, inaasahan pa rin ang fair weather conditions,” PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms still due to habagat and localized thunderstorms.

“Sa Metro Manila, bagama’t – throughout the day magiging maaraw po, at some point magkakaroon pa rin ng mga pulo-pulong pag-ulan at kaulapan pero hindi na kasingdalas katulad nitong mga nagdaang araw,” Estareja said.

Typhoon “Khanun” (formerly “Egay”) last seen west of Okinawa, Japan continues to enhance the southwest monsoon.

“Dahil humihina na itong Bagyong ‘Khanun’, inaasahan din ang paghina ng habagat o epekto nito sa ating bansa,” he said.

“Kung mapapansin sa ating latest satellite animation, maninipis na kaulapan na lamang ang dala nito lalo na sa may kanlurang parte ng Luzon,” he added.
