‘Habagat’ affects some 39K families in Bataan

ORANI, Bataan — Heavy rainfall, triggered by tropical storm “Josie” and the enhanced southwest monsoon, has affected some 39,738 families or 173,376 individuals in this province.

Josefina Timoteo, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), reported Tuesday that the affected families came from the towns of Dinalupihan; Hermosa; Orani; Samal; Abucay; Orion; Bagac; and Morong.

Some 1,851 families of 4,881 individuals were evacuated during the height of the rains Sunday.

Timoteo said that still being awaited are reports from Limay; Mariveles; Pilar; and Balanga City.

Landslides, fallen trees and flooding partially damaged 187 houses and totally damaging 27 others.

Totally damaged by flooding were 18 houses in Hermosa; five in Orion; and four in Morong.

According to a report from the Provincial Engineering Office, damage to infrastructures like public schools, water systems, flood control and bridges was placed at PHP81 million.

Damages to agriculture reached PHP14.1 million and fisheries at PHP500,00.
