‘Habagat’ rains to dampen PH; TD unlikely to enter PAR

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” will continue to bring rain showers across the country Tuesday, the weather bureau said.

In its 4:00 a.m. weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will continue over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur due to the southwest monsoon affecting Luzon.

Moderate to heavy rains may result in flooding and landslides in these areas.

“Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have generally fair weather. Isolated rain showers are possible in the afternoon or evening,” Grace Castañeda of PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, the tropical depression that has been spotted 2,820 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon is unlikely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

“Currently, it has no direct effect on any part of the country,” Castañeda said.

Extreme Northern Luzon will continue to experience strong winds and rough seas. Northern Luzon will have rough to very rough seas.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small sea vessels not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

The rest of Luzon will have moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas. The Visayas and Mindanao, on the other hand, will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas. – gb
