‘Habagat’ to bring clouds, rains to northern Luzon

By Raymond Carl Dela Cruz | Philippine News Agency

The southwest monsoon, locally known as the “habagat”, will trigger cloudy skies and scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in northern Luzon on Saturday, May 21.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the effects of “habagat” will be felt in Metro Manila; the Ilocos, Cordillera, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula regions; and the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, and Bataan.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms brought by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate winds headed southwest will blow over extreme northern Luzon, with slight to moderate coastal waters, PAGASA said.

The rest of Luzon will have light to moderate winds heading south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal waters.

The rest of the country will experience similar wind conditions but headed east to southeast, with the same water conditions.

The temperature in Metro Manila will range from 24°C to 31°C; Baguio City, 16°C to 22°C; Legazpi City, 26°C to 33°C; Puerto Princesa, 25°C to 31°C; Metro Cebu, 27°C to 32°C; and Metro Davao, 26°C to 33°C. – gb
