The southwest monsoon or habagat will bring rains and cloudy skies over several portions of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao this Thursday, Aug. 17, according to the country’s weather bureau.

Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, BARMM, Palawan, and Southern Leyte will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to habagat.

These may result in flooding or landslides due to moderate with at times heavy rains.

“Samantala, dito sa natitirang bahagi ng Luzon, asahan pa rin ang mainit at maalinsangang panahong sasamahan ng saglit na mga pag-ulan,” PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to habagat and localized thunderstorms.

“Pagsapit ng tanghali, mainit at maalinsangan sa maraming lugar, kabilang na riyan ang Aurora, Cagayan, Isabela, dito rin sa may Ilocos Norte, at malaking bahagi ng Quezon at Bicol Region,” Estareja said.

Air temperature may reach 33°C in Metro Manila while the heat index may go up to 40°C.

“Pagsapit ng hapon hanggang sa gabi, maulap na sa maraming lugar and possible na rin ang localized thunderstorms naman sa southern portion ng Cordillera region, Cagayan Valley, at malaking bahagi ng Central Luzon,” he said.

“In the coming days or hanggang sa weekend ay wala naman tayong inaasahang bagyo o low pressure area na papasok sa ating Philippine area of responsibility.”
