Heavy rains expected, landfall uncertain as typhoon Bising intensifies

Moderate to heavy rains are expected in Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Camotes Islands starting tomorrow, April 18, as Typhoon Bising “slightly intensifies” as it moves northwestward over the Philippine Sea.

Based on the latest severe weather bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the track forecast of Bising remains uncertain and the possibility of landfall has not yet been ruled out.

PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 “remains the highest level of wind signal that will be hoisted due to this typhoon.”

“However, in the event of a further eastward or westward shift in the current track forecast, [the] highest level of wind signal that will be hoisted for this typhoon may be lower or higher than the current scenario suggests,” it added.

As of April 17 noon, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is raised over Sorsogon, Albay, the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Siruma, Goa, Ocampo, Tigaon, Sagnay, Baao, Nabua, Bato, Iriga City, Buhi, Tinambac, Lagonoy, San Jose, Garchitorena, Presentacion, Caramoan), Ticao Island, and Catanduanes.

Signal No. 1 was also raised over Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Camotes Islands, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte (including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands), and Surigao del Sur.

The typhoon is forecast to “further intensify” and reach peak intensity of 195 to 205 kilometers per hour on April 18.
