HK detects new COVID-19 variant in passenger from PH


A passenger from the Philippines tested positive in Hong Kong for the new variant of COVID-19, authorities reported.

Chuang Shuk-kwan, the chief of communicable disease branch of the Center for Health Protection, said patient 9003 who is a Hong Kong resident returned from the Philippines aboard Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR300 last December 22.

Philippine health undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire responded that they are now seeking further details of the case from the Hong Kong government. The Department of Health (DOH) has already sought a copy of the flight manifest of the said trip from PAL.

Based on the monitoring of Hong Kong from December 22 to January 4, among the confirmed cases of the new strain were from the United Kingdom and France. – PTV News
