House members welcome PRRD’s focus on environment, corruption in 2nd SONA

MANILA, July 25 — The second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte has earned positive comments from members of the House of Representatives as it addressed the issues of corruption, environmental degradation, and the drug menace in the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, Bulacan Rep. Lorna Silverio commended President Duterte’s unrelenting fight against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption, describing the President’s first year in office as “very productive”.

Silverio pointed out that issues concerning the environment, foreign relations, infrastructure, economy, education, and agriculture have also been addressed in the SONA.

“The President’s first year in power has been very fruitful as he has been consistently getting support from the majority of Filipinos,” said Silverio.

“I feel optimistic that the President’s leadership style and strong political will further bring progress to our country. We just need to join hands together to support his good intention for our country,” she added.

Meanwhile, Lanao del Norte Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo highlighted the sustained efforts of the government to support the police and the military.

Dimaporo likewise lauded Duterte’s views against the ill-effects of mining in the communities.

Dimaporo took special notice of the President’s “sincerity for the well-being of the people.”

Davao Oriental Rep. Joel Mayo Almario, for his part, praised the President for his hardline stance against corruption in his administration, citing the firing of several high-ranking government officials.

Almario also commended the President’s call to the mining companies to protect the environment while undertaking their mining activities.

Almario called on President Duterte to provide timetables on the shift to federalism and the postponement of the 2017 barangay elections.

“We wanted to hear his marching orders and timetable regarding Charter change in the direction of federalism and on the postponement of the barangay elections,” Almario said. (Filane Mikee Cervantes/PNA)#DuterteSONA2017
