Huge blow for Laguna as Matthew Nierras suffers injury

MANILA — Stallion Laguna suffered a huge blow as head coach Ernie Nierras revealed that his son, Matthew, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury early into the club’s Copa Paulino Alcantara match against Davao Aguilas on Sept. 26.

The elder Nierras bared the sad news on his Twitter account on Thursday night following the magnetic resonance imaging on his son’s knee.

The younger Nierras hurt his knee following a collision with Matthew Hartmann in the 12th minute of their showdown that ended in a goal-less draw.

The injury came at a worst time as Ernie bared that his son was already gearing up for his trip to join the national team to Bangladesh.

“Matthew got his first call-up to the Azkals. He was supposed to leave for Friday to Bangladesh,” the elder Nierras said.

Matthew will also miss the rest of Laguna’s campaign in the league cup as well as the early going of the club’s campaign in next year’s Philippines Football League season. ( Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
